Katie started working in family law in 2006, and her professional and personal experiences have taught her the importance of ending a marriage with dignity. She is passionate about her clients and believes in a holistic approach to family law. She recognizes that, for nearly all of her clients, this is one of the most difficult and stressful times they will ever go through. She strives to get to know clients on a personal level so that she can fully understand their situation. She is practical with her advice and hopes to help clients make decisions that make the most sense for their specific situation on many levels.

In 2019, Katie became a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist. She has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2020, 2021, and 2022, and she is proud to add trained collaborative divorce attorney to her resume.

Katie is a native Charlottean and graduated in the top ten percent of her class during law school. While there, she worked in a family advocacy clinic representing parents whose children were in DSS custody. She also interned with the Mecklenburg County Family Court Office, the Honorable Louis A. Trosch, Jr., and in the Legal Department for (formerly) Matthews-based Family Dollar, Inc. She also volunteered with the Mecklenburg County Self-Serve Center.

Prior to attending law school, Katie was a legal assistant to a family law practitioner for almost seven years, and volunteered for the Mecklenburg County Guardian ad litem program for over two years. Katie earned her bachelor’s degree from Queens University of Charlotte, where she majored in American Political Science and was named Political Science Student of the Year. While at Queens, Katie was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, their two kids, and their Lab mix. In the past, Katie has volunteered with the Yancey County Humane Society and the Humane Society of Charlotte.
